Vote-boosting ensembles
Vote-boosting is a sequential ensemble learning method in which the
individual classifiers are built on different weighted versions of the training
data. To build a new classifier, the weight of each training instance is
determined in terms of the degree of disagreement among the current ensemble
predictions for that instance. For low class-label noise levels, especially
when simple base learners are used, emphasis should be made on instances for
which the disagreement rate is high. When more flexible classifiers are used
and as the noise level increases, the emphasis on these uncertain instances
should be reduced. In fact, at sufficiently high levels of class-label noise,
the focus should be on instances on which the ensemble classifiers agree. The
optimal type of emphasis can be automatically determined using
cross-validation. An extensive empirical analysis using the beta distribution
as emphasis function illustrates that vote-boosting is an effective method to
generate ensembles that are both accurate and robust

Abstract The quality of life in cornea transplanted patients after the surgery is disturbed because it’s a too delicate moment, where all aspects, psychological, social and physical play a key role in their recovery.
Blindness or low vision entails a severe functional limitation, granting this type of transplant a high social, economic and human value.
Objectives:
To analyze quality of life in eye cornea transplant patients after intervention in order to perform nursing interventions in agreement with the pathology.
Methodology:
The methodology will be qualitative, conducting in-depth interviews to collect data until saturation. Later it will be analyzed, organizing them for emerging issues, detailing and classifying data.Traballo fin de grao (UDC.FEP). Enfermaría. Curso 2013/201
e-Portfolio: Java technology for financial applications on the Internet
This is an electronic version of the paper presented at the WebNet 2001 World Conference on the WWW and Internet, held in Orlando on 2001The rapid introduction of the Internet technologies in the financial sector is
leading to profound changes affecting both financial service companies and private
investors. Web-based technologies have transfigured our concept of information
availability, and are transforming the way customers and service providers communicate
and relate to each other as well, posing new organizational and computational challenges. A
new generation of financial applications is needed that a) help users in accessing the right
information in an understandable form, despite the size and complexity of information
sources, b) are readily available from handy standard connection points, c) do not impose
heavy or too restrictive platform requirements on the user, and d) assure transparent, reliable
and secure transactions for the client. In this paper we describe e-Portfolio, a Java-based
financial application that gives assistance in the choice of an optimal investment strategy
according to an investor's profile. e-Portfolio’s highly portable, interoperable, and reusable
components result in a very flexible architecture that can be accommodated to different
business settings and requirements
The Implementation of the Energy Reform and Socio-environmental Conflicts Regarding Hydrocarbons in Mexico
The opening of Mexico’s energy sector to private investment, along with more critical public attitudes on the environmental and community toll of energy extraction activities, may increase the incidence and visibility of socio-environmental conflict in Mexico. The author discusses the history of socio-environmental conflict in Mexico, the potential emergence of such conflicts in urban and rural areas in the future, and the role the judicial branch may play in resolving socio-environmental challenges. This paper is part of a Baker Institute Mexico Center research project examining the rule of law in Mexico (http://www.bakerinstitute.org/the-rule-of-law/) and the challenges it poses to implementing the country's energy reform
Non-linear Causal Inference using Gaussianity Measures
We provide theoretical and empirical evidence for a type of asymmetry between
causes and effects that is present when these are related via linear models
contaminated with additive non-Gaussian noise. Assuming that the causes and the
effects have the same distribution, we show that the distribution of the
residuals of a linear fit in the anti-causal direction is closer to a Gaussian
than the distribution of the residuals in the causal direction. This
Gaussianization effect is characterized by reduction of the magnitude of the
high-order cumulants and by an increment of the differential entropy of the
residuals. The problem of non-linear causal inference is addressed by
performing an embedding in an expanded feature space, in which the relation
between causes and effects can be assumed to be linear. The effectiveness of a
method to discriminate between causes and effects based on this type of
asymmetry is illustrated in a variety of experiments using different measures
of Gaussianity. The proposed method is shown to be competitive with
state-of-the-art techniques for causal inference.Comment: 35 pages, 9 figure
Gender Differences in Technical-Tactical Behaviour of la Liga Spanish Football Teams
[Abstract] The aim of this study was to identify differences in technical-tactical behaviour between the men and women first division football teams of the Spanish league, to this end 68 matches corresponding to 2016/17 season were analysed. A comparative analysis of the medians was carried out using the Mann-Whitney U-tests were conducted as post hoc tests. The size effect of this test was calculated and, finally, we performed a grouping of the variables through the clustering bootstrapping technique in both groups. We have detected statistically significant differences (p <0.01) regarding all accurate passes, in favour of men, as well as a greater number of yellow cards. In female football, a greater number of picking up free balls, interceptions, lost balls, recoveries and challenges are produced. Finally, in women's football a greater number of attacks are also carried out, both positional and counterattacks than in men. The clustering analysis allowed us to identify that in male football, the circumstance of receiving a red card is closely related to the number of goals conceded and most of the shots on goal are achieved by positional attacks. In the case of women's football, ball possession on own half is closely related to the number of losses. Data proves the existence of technicaltactical differences between male and female football of the La Liga teams. Such detailed analysis could be useful for gender-specific training information for optimal preparation. However, more research is warranted to establish the main gender differences and characterize women's football. We gratefully acknowledge the support of Generalitat Valenciana proyect: Análisis observacional de la acción de juego en el fútbol de élite (Consellería d´Educació, Investigació, Cultura i Esport) during the period: 2017-2019 (GV2017/044).
